bun mee: marina

project details

Following successful projects on Market Street and at San Francisco International Airport, Denise Tran asked us to create a new restaurant that honors her brand’s origins while establishing a distinct identity for the fifth location of her popular Vietnamese sandwich shop in San Francisco’s Marina District.

The design transforms the existing commercial façade into a two-story mural by local artist Lady Henze. This striking feature enhances the restaurant’s presence and serves as a vibrant landmark on the busy street, drawing attention and setting the tone for the experience inside.

While building on branding concepts from earlier restaurants, the interior introduces new elements that keep the design fresh. A bold graphic wall with neon iconography anchors the seating area, while a cable ceiling and carefully arranged lighting evoke the lively atmosphere of Vietnamese street markets. These thoughtful details seek to combine an urban energy with cultural authenticity, creating a welcoming space for locals and visitors alike to enjoy the flavors of Vietnam in a modern neighborhood setting.
