sidewalk juice: sfo terminal three
project details
The family behind Sidewalk Juice pride themselves on providing the freshest all natural juices, smoothies and bowls with their “farm to cup” philosophy, i.e., a dedicated commitment to using only the best locally sourced products. This kiosk at San Francisco International Airport introduces their mission to the millions of travelers who pass through SFO every year.
Sidewalk Juice is intrinsically rooted in the small, iconic roadside fruit stands throughout California’s agriculturally-rich Central Valley. This kiosk is intended to be a modern interpretation of one of those stands. Our design provides a transparent architectural framework showcasing Sidewalk Juice’s products in an honest yet modern way, with a layout that allows the guests to engage the kiosk on all four sides. This makes for a small “theater in the round” experience where the customers can watch as the freshest local fruits and vegetables become their made-to-order juices and smoothies right in front of their eyes.
The theme of “farm to cup” continues in our use of the components and materials. White-washed wood planks recall classic fruit boxes, while the wood’s simple rusticity is contrasted by the thin, blackened steel trellis framing the kiosk. All in all, both are mere backdrops that allow the vibrant colors of the fruits and vegetables to pop, and make the traveler’s experience fun, colorful and upbeat.
