SIDEWALK JUICE: SF0 T3

The family behind Sidewalk Juice has always prided themselves on providing the freshest all natural juices, smoothies and bowls with their “farm to cup” philosophy, and a dedicated commitment to using only the best locally sourced products. We saw this kiosk at San Francisco International Airport as the perfect place to introduce their ideas to the millions of travelers who pass through SFO every year.

STORY

We immediately recognized these fruit stands as the perfect place to kick start the design, and celebrate the local farm fresh products that are such a part of the Bay Area food shed.
Sidewalk Juice is intrinsically rooted in the small, iconic roadside fruit stands throughout California’s agriculturally rich Central Valley. This kiosk is intended to be a modern interpretation of one of these fruit stands, one that celebrates the experience of visiting it during the peak seasonal harvest. We have provided a transparent architecture framework showcasing Sidewalk Juice’s products in a simple, honest yet modern way, allowing the customers to engage the kiosk on all four sides. This makes for a small “theater in the round” experience where the customer can watch as the freshest local fruits and vegetables become their made-to-order juices and smoothies, right in front of their eyes, not in a back kitchen.
The components and materials we used continue the theme of the raw and natural: white-washed wood planks cladding the kiosk recall the fruit boxes indicative of all fruit stands; however, the wood’s simple rusticity is contrasted by the thin modern blackened steel trellis framing the kiosk. All in all, both are mere backdrops that allow the vibrant colors of the fruits and vegetables to pop, and make the entire design experience fun, colorful and upbeat for the traveler.
